We have all been eagerly awaiting the return of Bridgerton and it is finally back! Part of the reason we love the show is the aesthetic and its beautifully inaccurate costumes. Historically accurate films and tv shows have their place, but Bridgerton is more of a historical fantasy and we are here for it! The show has taken some creative liberties with the music, the sets, the storylines and the looks; all to create an exciting and romantic world for us to become obsessed with.
Costume designer Ellen Mirojnick has taken the basic principles of the regency era such as the silhouette, and elevated it into bold and sexy regency with a modern twist. Without this twist, the fabric would be flatter with less embellishment, the corsets (or stays are they were called) would be less restrictive, shorter and worn over a chemise, there would less cleavage and it would be wall to wall bonnets! Not rigidly sticking to historical accuracy gives the show the sense of escapism that has contributed to its success.
It has become so popular that Regencycore is now a huge trend with people looking to the show for fashion inspiration. Lingerie trends have not escaped with Bridgerton effect with corsets and bustiers becoming increasingly popular. Here are some of my favourite Bridgerton inspired picks:
What do you think of the Regencycore trend? Would you prefer Bridgerton to be more historically accurate?
