Creating your own beautiful lingerie is an exciting and rewarding experience. Whether you're a seasoned sewer or just starting out, having the right tools can make all the difference in achieving professional results. In this post, I’ll explore the essential tools you'll need to get started on your lingerie sewing journey.

Marking Tools
Accurate marking is crucial in lingerie sewing, ensuring that your pieces fit together perfectly. Here are some must-have marking tools:
Air Soluble Pens: These pens are perfect for temporary marks that disappear over time or with a bit of water. Ideal for more delicate fabrics.
Chalk Pen: Provides clear, precise lines on fabric that can be easily brushed away.
Tailor's Chalk: A classic tool for marking fabric, tailor's chalk is easy to use and comes in various colours.
Pattern Notches: Essential for adding notches to your patterns, helping you align pieces accurately during assembly. (I also use this as a weight when cutting my fabric out, but proper pattern weights would be better!).

Cutting Tools
Sharp and precise cutting tools are vital for clean, professional-looking seams and edges. Here are the cutting tools you'll need:
Fabric Scissors: A high-quality pair of fabric scissors is a must for cutting your fabric smoothly and great for larger pieces.
Embroidery Scissors: These small, sharp scissors are perfect for trimming threads and working on intricate details.
Rotary Cutter: Offers precision cutting, especially useful for straight lines and curves. Make sure to use a self-healing mat to protect your surfaces.

Measuring Tools
Accurate measurements ensure your lingerie fits perfectly. Here are the essential measuring tools for your kit:
Patternmaster: A versatile tool for pattern drafting, featuring a ruler, curve, and protractor in one. French curves can also be useful, but I have never used one and have managed ok!
Flexible Ruler: Perfect for measuring curves and making adjustments to patterns.
Measuring Tape: Essential for taking body measurements and measuring fabric. Look for a tape measure with both inches and centimetres for versatility.

Classic Tools
These classic tools might seem basic, but they are indispensable for any sewing project:
Masking Tape: Perfect for quick pattern alterations and holding pieces in place when patterncutting.
Pins: Essential for holding fabric pieces together while sewing. Choose sharp, fine pins to avoid leaving marks on delicate fabrics.
Final Thoughts
Having the right tools is the first step to successful lingerie sewing. Invest in quality tools that work for you to make your sewing process smoother and your finished pieces more professional. Happy sewing!
